The pony clubs
regular riding sessions are held every second Friday
evening. Riders are split into groups dependent on
riding ability which range from walk/trot through to
competint riders who can jump and carry out lateral
movements. The sessions follow a prearranged
programme (see link below) with there being a
variety of topics including many training, have a go
and competition evenings.
Theory/practical
sessions are normally held on a Saturday morning.
Badges are earnt as a reward after training and test
which can be attached to a pony club jumper. Weeks
alternate between theory and tests – 1st week
training for the badge and then 2nd week test for
the badge. Badges available cover a wide variety of
equine topics including ‘points of the horse’,
‘saddlery’ and ‘riding and road safety’. As well as
these there is a variety of related topics such as
‘farming’ and ‘human first aid’.
Pony Club tests are
run at the centre to give pony club members a chance
to start earning their first levels of equestrian
qualifications. These tests are an easy step up from
the basic level of the badges. Levels are D, D+, C,
C+, B, B+, A and finally A+. Some of the higher
level qualifications can earn the holder direct
entry into BHS exams were they can further expand
their knowledge and qualifications. Next dates for
these have still to be confirmed.
Equestrian outings
are also arranged from time to time which gives
members a chance to see horses in action in variety
of different enviroments and have a chance to learn
from watching the best. Recently they had a great
day out a Blair Horse Trials. |
